U-wipe – Privacy Protection Tool
Review by on
If you care about your privacy, then you must make sure to remove all the sensitive information your computer and your browser store. Your computer stores a lot of data, data that could be used to compromise your privacy; and so does your browser. For example, your browser knows what sites you visited, and what files you downloaded off the web.

The fact that the Windows operating system and the applications that run on top of it leave tracks behind is a well known fact. Things like Temporary files, logs, and registry entries hold within information about what you did while using the computer. There is a log on pretty much everything you do – which I think you will agree is not exactly privacy-friendly.

Now you cold delete all these logs, clear away all the tracks by yourself. But that would be too much of a bother, especially when you have specialized software that can do it for you. U-Wipe for example is such a software application. This Network Research Lab-developed piece of software is a privacy protection tool that will do away with all the tracks you leave behind – this applies to the Windows operating system and the Internet Explorer browser.

You can select what items you want to be deleted. For example you can select to have only the contents on TEMP folders removed, or only cookies removed. You can run U-Wipe yourself whenever it is convenient for you, or you could set it up so that U-Wipe runs at specified intervals of time – for example U-Wipe can clean on start, or every 10 minutes (the amount of time goes all the way up to 480 minutes).

To further protect your privacy, U-Wipe features a handy boss key. If you’re surfing the web and someone walks in, you can simply press Alt + Space and all Internet Explorer windows will be hidden away (they will not show up in the taskbar).

Pros
  • Easy to use
  • Pop-up blocker
  • Boss key
  • Schedule tasks

Cons
  • Not free
